the ALMOST INCREDIBLE HULK

hulk.jpg

So it wasn’t bad and it was ten times better then marvels first attempt at the ang lee (dir.) hulk. for not being a sequel or a continuation of the first attempt you are almost required to have some knowledge on how bruce banner becomes the gigantic green monster. with this said, it was actually a decent flick with a couple great cameo’s including stan lee, lou ferrigno and robert downey jr. as tony stark (iron man). so if your asking should i spend the ten bucks to see this cinematic adventure in the theaters or should i wait till the dvd release, id say go for it its a good rainy day movie.

ITS GONNA BE A SUPER-HERO SUMMER

after seeing one of the many anticipated movies of the summer last night (iron man) i am officially excited for this summers line-up including but limited to (dark knight, the incredible hulk, speed racer, indiana jones, tropic thunder and pineapple express.)

iron-man-poster2-big.jpg

anyways IRON MAN was an amazing movie i would easily give it 4 stars, robert downey jr did an amazing job playing the extremely wealthy and cocky tony stark (not a huge stretch for downey) but non the less im a fan. also worth mentioning terrence howard does a great job playing stark’s buddy and his roll only will get bigger in the upcoming trilogy. thats right all three stars howard, downey and paltrow have signed on to do 2 more iron man movies to complete the trilogy. go out enjoy the movie. Its worth the continuing jack in movie prices.

Don’t Take a Piss Without Getting Paid For It!

Picture-12.jpg

In this clip from the upcoming documentary about his life (Dreams with Sharp Teeth), Harlan Ellison (noted short story, novella, and television writer) candidly speaks about why/when a writer should be paid. Never one to hold back any punches (do some research on his pseudonym Cordwainer Bird), Harlan has some not-so-nice things to say about people who don’t want to pay him.

Required Reading

Two “Required Reading” posts in a row?? What’s going on? Maybe we’ve turned into a bunch of bookworms. Or maybe we just like looking at pictures. Who knows? I’ll refrain from posting all the libertine books I’ve been reading, and instead, we’ll give you a few more books filled with pretty drawings to look at. Here you go:

Phil Frost has (finally) released his first book.

Instead of repeatedly watching the end credits, why not own all the phallic drawings from Superbad for yourself!

Beautiful Losers World Premier

BL_SXSW.jpg
The film, Beautiful Losers, will get its world premier at this yeas SXSW Film Festival. The movie, which documents what some are calling one of the most important art movements of our time (and also happens to feature some of our favorite artists like Barry McGee, Stephen Powers, Margaret Kilgallen, Geoff McFetridge, Cheryl Dunn, and Harmony Korine) will get it’s first screening on Sunday, March 9th at 1:15 at the Paramount in Austin Texas. If you’re in the state where everything is supposedly bigger, you should definitely consider checking this out. There’s a few other screenings at SXSW, and one scheduled for New York. No other info about any sort of release, but when we know, we’ll let you know.

Oscars!!!

After a tad over 3 hours of actual show time (not including all the pre/post coverage happening on numerous networks), deserving (and highly foreign) actors/actresses/directors/producers/writers waltz through the backstage of LA’s Kodak theater with a naked, gold, man named Oscar clutched in their palm. There were no real surprise winners, nor any real snubs to tell about. Everything was pretty much expected. Well, we’re just upset Balls of Fury wasn’t nominated for one single award. Anyway, here’s a rundown of the 4 big category winners. The show would be a lot shorter if they just did these four plus the supporting awards, but hey sitting through constant 80 year Oscar history really wasn’t that bad (they could have done worse).

oscars.jpg
Best Picture/Best Director - Ethan and Joel Coen for No Country For Old Men
Best Original Screenplay - Diablo Cody for Juno
Best Actress - Marion Cotillard for La Vie En Rose
Best Actor - Daniel Day Lewis for There Will Be Blood (go ahead and say the milkshake line)
