Adventures in Babysitting: The Yo Gaba Gaba Face

Yo Gaba Gaba is one of those shows for kids that you find yourself watching. If you find yourself singing along to the songs about buckling up for safety because accidents are bad…. then you have a problem. Perched in his chair, pacifier secure in his mouth, eyes glazed over from a full day, there was nothing keeping this little man from his Yo Gaba Gaba time. And I don’t blame him! This show combines the innocence of lesson learning through singing songs, with music that is actually good!
Hosted by DJ Lance Rock (Lance Robertson), a member of the “LA indie scene,” is the eccentric man dressed up in the neon orange spandex unitard who wears enormous glasses. Let me paint a picture. Brooklyn young parents who want to expose their children to educational - but GOOD - music and TV. That’s this show. And I say keep it up! With Mark Mothersbaugh, who is famous for the soundtracks to Wes Anderson (my favorite director) movies and is often found on my shuffle, instructing kids on how to draw pictures of objects, a segment called “cool tricks,” another one called “Dancey Dance Time,” and my personal favorite: ” The Super Music Friends Show” in which they bring in really good musical guests to get dressed up in crazy outfits and sing little kid songs. It’s priceless!
Babysitting Benjamin this weekend was my most recent excuse to jam out to the swift beatz of DJ Lance Rock. My personal favorite moment: When Ben decided he wanted to get up and dance after me asking him at least 5 times to show me his cool moves! It made my day! Babysitting this little dude on a Saturday night!
