Attention all artist, creators, and basically everyone. Legislation is in the process that would require you to register and copyright ALL of you work or else they become ORPHANED and free for anybody to use and make money off of. As it sits now, an artist’s work becomes copyrighted once it’s completed; it does not have to be registered. This new bill would turn all unregistered artwork into orphaned work, and free for anybody (companies included) to use without your approval and without paying. Of course, this will drain an artists pockets as they scramble to get all of their work under wraps and fully copyrighted. In this clip from the upcoming documentary about his life (Dreams with Sharp Teeth), Harlan Ellison (noted short story, novella, and television writer) candidly speaks about why/when a writer should be paid. Never one to hold back any punches (do some research on his pseudonym Cordwainer Bird), Harlan has some not-so-nice things to say about people who don’t want to pay him.
On May 15th, artist Ron English will release his Bunnny Rabbbit toy that was pulled from this portrait. To celebrate, Kidrobot will be holding a release and signing on the same day from 6-8pm at their brand new New York City store at 118 Prince Street.
