Check out the Philly Mag website to see a little write up on our snowboards. Print edition should be out soon, if it’s not already out.

Dead Presidency

jay-z.jpg

Jay-Z stirred things up on Christmas Eve by announcing he will no longer be the President of Def Jam after the year ends. With an expiring contract, Jay-Z sought more lucrative terms, and Def Jam decided to pass. The Carter is still under recording contract with Def Jam, but no longer will run the show. Jay-Z plans on taking on new challenges and he’s got the Nets and the 40/40 empire to attend to. Plus, isn’t he building a building in NoLibs or something? Someone confirm that for us. We’re not NoLibs savvy. Souf Philly and Norfeast ’til def. But, with some smash hits during his tenure, there’s been plenty of commercial not-living-ups (we wouldn’t necessarily call them failures) including two of his own albums under his regime. No word yet on who will take Hov’s place in the board room.

Here’s the NY Times article.

Top 6

We’ve got a top six for you in this post/pre holiday weird downtime. Most of us are at the office today because we got shit to do. Real big things from [ 2 one 5 ]/Living Proof in 2008. Real big things. Anyway, here’s some DVD recommendations so you can kill some time before you blast the New Year off with a regrettable kiss from some guy/girl you don’t really care about but just happens to be next to you. That’s the way to start it off. Well, enough chitchat, here’s the DVDs.

top6.jpg
1.) Dinosaurs – The Complete 1st and 2nd Seasons
2.) Once
3.) This is England
4.) Live Free or Die Hard
5.) The Bourne Ultimatum
6.) The Jerk

Snowboarder Mag

The latest issue of Snowboarder magazine was wrapped up in the tin of our mailbox today. Read it. Also, be sure to check out the R.E.D. Protection add we did. The issue itself is pretty good and features the guest editing skills of Olympic Gold Medal Winner and Flying Tomato Shaun White. What’s also good is that the magazine doesn’t, hypothetically speaking, misspell the name of a prominent early 00’s Philadelphia DJ duo in, let’s just say, a feature article/interview with one of the DJ’s. If a magazine did that, especially in, oh I don’t know, perhaps the first issue, that would be wayyyyyy embarrassing. This is all hypothetical of course. We don’t know of a magazine guilty of committing that copy editing/common knowledge/you’re trying to be a legitimate magazine/idiotic faux pas. Especially a magazine trying too hard to show everybody how cool they are.

as huge as movie buffs as we are here at [ 2 one 5 ] you know we saw a few movies this holiday season. the first was “Sweeney Todd : the demon barber of fleet street.” first and foremost one of the best musical movies i have ever seen. both Depp and Carter have surprisingly good voices and the rest of the cast ain’t half bad either. if you like musicals and the sight of blood doesn’t really affect you then defiantly check this cinematic adventure out.

[ 2 one 5 ] Invades NYC/Frank 151

So, [ 2 one 5 ] ventured out of our area code yesterday, hopped the Amtrak (we travel in style), and landed smack dab in the middle of NYC. We had a snowboard in tow and headed on down to Frank’s Chop Shop to hand it off to our homie Craig Wetherby. We also got a little tour of Frank 151’s headquarters/Chop Shop. Naturally, cameras were present, and pictures were taken. Enjoy.

“i AM LEGEND”

iamlegend.jpg

4bridges.jpg

well i made it to the movies this weekend and saw ” I am Legend” with will smith. overall a really good flick. will smith does an awesome job acting a lil crazy, but you would act a tad loco if you spent 3 years with out any human contact. along with the tension and action will smith still leaves some time for a little comedy.

Holler Daze

Apparently, the freezing temperatures and all-day rain couldn’t stop us from having a little too much fun. It didn’t really stop any of you either. Once the drizzle let up, we/you descended upon the Walnut Room for our Holler Daze. The Bawdy Girls hooked it up, and Botany 500 from Cue Records got the dance floor dirty. Of course, here are the photos (part 1 for now. part 2 will be up tomorrow), even some Polaroids again. Head to our Flickr page to see them all.

Don’t F#%k With Alycia Lane

20071217_dn_g1alyc17c.JPG

Alycia Lane apparently went crazy this past weekend in NYC. She totally punched a cop, AND called her a “fucking dyke.” The police officer whom she hit has one side of the story, and Lane is singing another. It’s hard to figure out what really happened. So, to help you out, here’s the Daily News Article, and a copy of the complaint.

6-8!

09000d5d80527184_gallery_600.jpg

Donovan McNabb seems to think bursting through to a 6-8 record means you can gallivant around Texas stadium with the “Number 1″ raised. Right. Look, i’m kind of happy the Eagles won, and more stoked that they beat the Cowboys, but Donovan McNabb only managed to not throw any interceptions. He’s still playing like shit, and the defense deserves all the credit for all 6 of the Eagles wins. With all the Andy Reid bullshit, and Donovan’s weekly saga, the defense has been overlooked, forgotten about, and uncredited. T.O.’s been having a phenomenal year, and he was held to 2 catches. The running backs were held to 50 yards. That’s how the Eagles have been winning games. I guess, we’ll give them a “congratulations” anyway. Now, please tank the rest of the season so we can get a good draft pick. Thanks.

15 Minutes Are Up

Photo 162.jpg

Philly.com has been void of new news for two days now. Uh-oh. Are Bonnie’s fifteen minutes up? Her desire to be the center of attention came and went. She was a “buxom” celebrity with front page stories left and right, pictures everywhere, and a long list of shitty things she did, not only the ID theft/burglary, but shit she tried to pull/did pull on her friends. Now what, Bonnie? Well, she’s holed up with her parents somewhere awaiting her hearing in February (we don’t foresee a reemergence of interest then). What’s left? What’s coming next? It seemed that each day brought a new revelation about this girl that compounded the fascination/laughability of the whole situation–breast implants from dad, Olympic pole vaulter lies, the switcheroo for a test, etc. We guess the counter finally pushed over to 15:00. And, if it didn’t yet, we printed out her mugshot and Warholed it up with the MacBook to finally give it that final turn. She may still have a final thread–Philadelphia Weekly’s probably planning a cover story in the next few weeks when nobody really gives a damn anymore.

Parties Continue

toypunksweb.jpg

This Friday, wthn presents the Toypunks screening and after party at Skinner’s in Old City. Go check it out. Mason will be spinning pure hardcore and metal.

TONIGHT

After the Old City holiday sidewalk sale last night, there’s probably still some holes to fill on your gift list. But, don’t get into a panic yet, there’s still plenty of time, and TONIGHT’s the perfect night to finish it up.

First, get your ass to Omoi’s First Birthday Party. This store gets more stuff every time we’re in there, and it’s all good:

After you’ve stuffed yourself with birthday cake, why not wash it down with some vodka cocktails? That’s right, come out to our Holler Daze and get some t-shirts and other gifts:

On the Wall

historic-grafitti-in-soho-1.jpg

As a historic building in New York’s Soho sections received a makeover into luxury lofts, a wall dating all the way back to late 1970’s and early 1980s (or so) reared it’s head. (Read the Yahoo article) The wall was once the property (or rather the loft) or a known art collector and purveyor of the so-called fringe arts and features some well-known taggers and artists including Fab 5 Freddy, Futura 2000, and even Jean-Michael Basquiat. Supposedly, it’s the earliest findings of graffiti being perceived as art rather than crime. Even more of a suprise (to us at least) lies in the fact that probably only ten years ago, this wouldn’t be getting the national attention that’s been blanketed over it. The move of graffiti into the “art” world and even mainstream culture only happened recently. Some always considered the craft an art form, but it’s mostly been relegated and related to words like “criminal,” “ugly,” and “degenerate.” Now, the tagged wall has been called a relic, and is getting prepped to keep it intact, in a museum, and alive–basically it’s not getting rolled over with paint like so many other “historic” graffiti walls. The whole article makes it seem like this wall dates back to the days of Christ, but, my god, it’s only 27 or so years old. It just goes to show the significant impact (both negative and positive) graffiti has made in the world, and really puts the whole idea of what it’s become into perspective. Guaranteed some UArts kid invited all his/her friends over to tag up his/her dorm room wall after reading this story, or he/she has started their own little graffiti wall in some South Philly neighborhood because that’s where most UArts kids move to (or Rittenhouse) after they decide the dorms aren’t “arty” enough for them, and they need more creative space.

Do the J Walk

This month’s Metro•Pop dedicates two pages to J Shoes. We’ve done some work for J Shoes and it’s good to see them getting some shine. Check it out if you have a chance or an extra $5 you can use to lavish yourself with a new magazine.

Thursday

Thursday looks to be the best day of the holiday season so far this year. There’s plenty to do, plenty of people to see, and plenty of events going on. You’re night’s going to be packed, so spend Wednesday resting up. Unless you have to work. But, fuck it. We know your work is slow around this time of year. So, be at these events with us. We’ll buy you a drink, or something.

First Up: Kick off your Thursday Night at Omoi’s one year birthday party. The event gets started at about 5pm and runs until around 9pm. Pick up some womens and mens fall/winer fashions, toys, books, and other unique holiday gifts. There’s also going to be surprise live painting and music, and new works and an installation by Geoffrey Partridge. Talk about filling your plate. Omoi’s located at 1608 Pine St.
omoi.jpeg

After the Omoi bash (we will be in attendance, Liz) head on up the street to the Walnut Room for [ 2 one 5 ]’s Holler Daze. Party starts at 7pm and runs all night. Botany 500 will be getting the dance floor going, and we’ll be selling shit for you to give to loved ones as gifts. Be on the lookout for some upcoming goods, and we’ll even have a few samples we’re kicking around for our Spring/Summer 08 line. Free Ciroc Vodka Cocktails from 7-10 too. Get drunk. Walnut Room – 1709 Walnut St. 2nd Floor

Radiohead x Too $hort

Untitled-1.jpg

As if Kanye, Pharrell, and Lupe flipping “The Eraser” beat for the lead off to their supergroup Us Placers wasn’t enough for the unusual/not that far-fetched ode to all things Radiohead/Thom Yorke, get ready because Oakland’s own Too $hort is now in on all the fun. Pitchfork reports that Zion I producer Amplive has created an 8 track remix record of Radiohead’s latest Pitchfork choose-your-own-rating In Rainbows. The album, Rainydayz Remixes, will be download only, and Pitchfork’s got the details. I can’t wait to hear Too $hort and the lazy-eyed wonderkid trading verses.

Art Basel

Art Basel Miami Beach
concluded this weekend. Unfortunately, none of us could make it down there this year. Fortunately, Supertouch’s been doing a great job with coverage of all the happenings including a show opening by The Stooges. Word on the street is that our homie Josh Liner/Lineage Gallery threw a pretty kick ass show in a 5 story Miami Beach mansion featuring new work by Ron English, Jeremy Fish, Sam Flores, Stash & Futura, Mars-1, Aiko Nakagawa, Dave White, Mark Dean Veca and more. The Art Basel Miami Beach website has some photos up, along with information for the ‘08 installment.
