The rumors of “back together” are now officially confirmed. There was definite talk of a new album (from Kevin Shields himself), but I wasn’t buying it until now. My Bloody Valentine play 3 (for now) live dates next June/July. I am, at this very moment in this blog post, asking for these days off. Thanks.

We saw these works on Supertouch and couldn’t resist posting something about it.
Possibly the best title for an art show ever: Hookers on Safari. The show features the works of Natalia Fabia, an LA artist and apparently “The Lowbrow Paris Hilton.” The show features paintings of seductive women in wilderness settings. Add in a little provocativeness, too, and it becomes completely awesome. I would probably check out this show based on the name alone, but Natalia Fabia’s work is pretty fucking good/totally incredible/completely mind blowing.

Dear UArts Kids,
Here’s a little beam of sunlight for a cloudy day in Philly. Your probable hero, Banksy, has been getting some special treatment from the Islington Council. While many Banksy works usually get the “vandalism” treatment, workers for Islington have been trained and now take the time to repair some of the notorious artist’s wall paintings that have been tagged over by non-Banksy fans. So, keep laying your shitty little stencils all over the general Pine/Spruce vicinity where your classes, dorms, and buildings are. Maybe one day they won’t get washed off/painted over/trampled on/made fun of. Then, after your first year at UArts ends, you can pray that the South Philly neighborhood where you eventually move to passes the same ordinance and preserves your work because, you know, it’s “art.”

Pitchfork reports that this years Philly Popped! Festival* will be partially curated by none other than the Roots! The Philly boys will curate the first night of the festival, AND perform Things Fall Apart in its entirety. Holy Shit is right. Hook us up with a press pass.

While some of us at the office aren’t really Kanye West fans, we’d like to do the right thing, and send our condolences to Kanye, his family, and anybody else whose life was touched by Donda West. I’m sure there were plenty, as she was chariwoman of the Chicago State University English Department. Keep your heads up and your hearts strong.

We reviewed the movie a couple of weeks ago. Now, it’s the album’s turn to run the gauntlet at [ 2 one 5 ]. Let’s just say it emerged from the other end virtually unscathed. While it may not be on par with Reasonable Doubt or The Blueprint (few hip-hop albums are), it’s plenty far away from Kingdom Come (or should we say: Kingdumb Come, har har har). When he hits, he’s on point. When he misses, he’s way off. But, there really aren’t that many misses. Anyway, American Gangster puts Jay back where he’s most comfortable: talking about hustling drugs, why he did, and where it put him. Cut in the references to applying that same hustle to the music game, and you’ve got what usually turns out to be a quality Jay-Z album–not the overly reflective bullshit he called his comeback album. A few other points to note about this album: 1.) Diddy and The Hitmen(!) contributed production on about 5 songs. Is Bad Boy back?!?! 2.) The album won’t be available on iTunes for individual song download, which is a pretty big risk considering how huge that shit is now. It’ll be interesting to see how his numbers pan out. Unless the rumors start to fly again that Jay bought 250,000 copies of his own album. 3.) Jay-Z loves Jews: Rich niggas, black bar mitzvahs/Mazel tav, it’s a celebration bitches, la heim/I wish for you a hundred years of success, but it’s my time

If you came out to the Living Proof Magazine Launch Party, you probably had a pretty good time. We know we did. Towards the end of the night, we thought about renaming the party Drunkfest 2007 or All Our Interns Are Drunk. Either one would have been quite appropriate. Nonetheless, thanks to everybody who came through, or who ended up smack dab in the middle of the party because they wanted to go to the Walnut Room that night. Well, here’s Part 1 (on our Flickr page) of the pictures. More Polaroid Time, too. Part 2 will be unleashed when one of our interns sobers up.
