Now that Jarvis Cocker is a full-fledged solo artist, he’s added some unique cover songs to his live repertoire. He’s small sampling of some of my favorites.

Required Reading

Untitled-12.jpg

Here’s your required reading for the week our dear pupils. A test will be given out at the end of the week. You’d better be prepared or suffer the consequences. We promise.

ReStocks

While the weather continues to fluctuate in totally weird/random ways, it’s becoming increasingly difficult to figure out what charming and dishy outfit to wear. Of course, you want people to refer to you as a “real looker,” but do you really want to pay the price the weather hands out and face the looming disaster that is being over/under dressed? Of course not. That would be rather distressing.

Fret not, our dear go-go gadabouts. We’ve got some restocks in that’ll surely turn your “winter” weather woes around really fast.

First up, one of our most popular tees to date, What Happened to Peace just got back from the screen printer. We’ve got a whole batch. Buy them.

Next: Our Demand Peace tee just got a slight revamp in the form of long sleeves. These will be in the store shortly, but buy the short sleeve until then.

MBV News Continues

mbv.jpeg

Hope you all had a nice long holiday weekend. Now that Monday enters the realm of “full swing” (we know, it’s already 2pm), we’ll get underway with some new news regarding the recent reformation (i like alliteration) of My Bloody Valentine. Pitchfork reports that the group plans to head to the studio in December (days away!) to work on the follow-up to “Loveless.” According to the Billboard piece too, the quartet has reformed with the same lineup that brought us that timeless and acclaimed album (Kevin, Bilinda, Debbie, and Colm). Coachella rumors are still flying like hawks though, but the band just plans to see how their few (with an extra London show added) summer shows go.

Required Reading

This one may be not be required reading as much as it is required looking. Not quite satisfied with our sneak peek at the Sam Flores, Amy Sol, Stella Im Hultberg show at Lineage Gallery, we donned our best art kid apparel and went to the actual opening on Friday night. All three artists were on hand, and all were super nice. Amy Sol told Dan he looked like he was in high school. All three had seen Living Proof, which can be found at Lineage. Sam Flores was even kind enough to sign/draw in his Samuel Flores book for us. And that book is your required looking.

Sneak Peek

Today, [ 2 one 5 ] was invited to a little sneak peek at the upcoming Sam Flores, Amy Sol/Stella Im Hultberg show at Lineage Gallery. Here’s how exclusive it was: We were the only ones there, and not everything was hung up yet. Aren’t we cool? Here’s a few pictures. More, bigger, and better pictures can be found here. The show opens tomorrow (11/16/07) and runs through 12/23/07. Make sure you’re in attendance at some point because based on what we’ve seen, the stuff is incredible.

We added Pt. 2 of the Living Proof Launch Party photos to our Flickr page the other day. Go take a look. Perhaps you made it into a photos and now officially can call yourself an “internet celebrity.”

Holy Shit

mbv.jpg

The rumors of “back together” are now officially confirmed. There was definite talk of a new album (from Kevin Shields himself), but I wasn’t buying it until now. My Bloody Valentine play 3 (for now) live dates next June/July. I am, at this very moment in this blog post, asking for these days off. Thanks.

Here’s the link if you don’t believe me/think I made the flyer myself.

Hookers on Safari

We saw these works on Supertouch and couldn’t resist posting something about it.

Possibly the best title for an art show ever: Hookers on Safari. The show features the works of Natalia Fabia, an LA artist and apparently “The Lowbrow Paris Hilton.” The show features paintings of seductive women in wilderness settings. Add in a little provocativeness, too, and it becomes completely awesome. I would probably check out this show based on the name alone, but Natalia Fabia’s work is pretty fucking good/totally incredible/completely mind blowing.

Hope For UArts Kids

Dear UArts Kids,
Here’s a little beam of sunlight for a cloudy day in Philly. Your probable hero, Banksy, has been getting some special treatment from the Islington Council. While many Banksy works usually get the “vandalism” treatment, workers for Islington have been trained and now take the time to repair some of the notorious artist’s wall paintings that have been tagged over by non-Banksy fans. So, keep laying your shitty little stencils all over the general Pine/Spruce vicinity where your classes, dorms, and buildings are. Maybe one day they won’t get washed off/painted over/trampled on/made fun of. Then, after your first year at UArts ends, you can pray that the South Philly neighborhood where you eventually move to passes the same ordinance and preserves your work because, you know, it’s “art.”

Roots Get Popped

header.jpg

Pitchfork reports that this years Philly Popped! Festival* will be partially curated by none other than the Roots! The Philly boys will curate the first night of the festival, AND perform Things Fall Apart in its entirety. Holy Shit is right. Hook us up with a press pass.

*Please note, the big add banner on their website is not us. We’re Living Proof. Read it.

Donda West, Mother of Kanye, Dies

ALeqM5gcehdpVIpDlJbZsZwvAzr9yNnmLA.jpeg
While some of us at the office aren’t really Kanye West fans, we’d like to do the right thing, and send our condolences to Kanye, his family, and anybody else whose life was touched by Donda West. I’m sure there were plenty, as she was chariwoman of the Chicago State University English Department. Keep your heads up and your hearts strong.

Here’s the AP story.

American Gangster

41nuzyJfzOL._SS500_.jpg

We reviewed the movie a couple of weeks ago. Now, it’s the album’s turn to run the gauntlet at [ 2 one 5 ]. Let’s just say it emerged from the other end virtually unscathed. While it may not be on par with Reasonable Doubt or The Blueprint (few hip-hop albums are), it’s plenty far away from Kingdom Come (or should we say: Kingdumb Come, har har har). When he hits, he’s on point. When he misses, he’s way off. But, there really aren’t that many misses. Anyway, American Gangster puts Jay back where he’s most comfortable: talking about hustling drugs, why he did, and where it put him. Cut in the references to applying that same hustle to the music game, and you’ve got what usually turns out to be a quality Jay-Z album–not the overly reflective bullshit he called his comeback album. A few other points to note about this album: 1.) Diddy and The Hitmen(!) contributed production on about 5 songs. Is Bad Boy back?!?! 2.) The album won’t be available on iTunes for individual song download, which is a pretty big risk considering how huge that shit is now. It’ll be interesting to see how his numbers pan out. Unless the rumors start to fly again that Jay bought 250,000 copies of his own album. 3.) Jay-Z  loves Jews: Rich niggas, black bar mitzvahs/Mazel tav, it’s a celebration bitches, la heim/I wish for you a hundred years of success, but it’s my time

Living Proof Launch Party Photos

If you came out to the Living Proof Magazine Launch Party, you probably had a pretty good time. We know we did. Towards the end of the night, we thought about renaming the party Drunkfest 2007 or All Our Interns Are Drunk. Either one would have been quite appropriate. Nonetheless, thanks to everybody who came through, or who ended up smack dab in the middle of the party because they wanted to go to the Walnut Room that night. Well, here’s Part 1 (on our Flickr page) of the pictures. More Polaroid Time, too. Part 2 will be unleashed when one of our interns sobers up.

TONIGHT

lpparty2.jpg

It’s Thursday, the unofficial start of the weekend. It might be cold out, but fuck it. Come to the Living Proof Launch party tonight. We know the mag has been out for a little minute now, but come on out. We’ve got some goodies for you if you do. We promise. Also, we weren’t going to at first, but there’s going to be a [ 2 one 5 ] table where we’ll be selling some goods for reallllll cheap. Snatch ‘em up.

LP on Snowboard Mag

Well, it seems like it’s Living Proof day here at [ 2 one 5 ]. The latest love comes from Snowboard Mag. Gary posted about us in his blog, and it’s already helped us get a ton of downloads. So keep it coming, Gary.

Contest Entries

Well, it seems some people made it through Living Proof in its entirety and decided to enter the “Win an LP Hoodie Contest.” We’ve received a few submissions so far, and this one is headed for victory right now. The contest doesn’t end until Dec. 31 of 2007, so there’s still time for you to get your sports card in and take over the spot. Not sure what the contest is? Go download the magazine to find out!

Meju Korean Restaurant

Untitled-1.jpg

Our boy Steve recently opened up a Korean restaurant just across Strawberry St. from his other establishment, Double Shots. It’s called Meju and features an assortment of food at affordable prices. It’s also BYOB, so you can get drunk all you want while you stuff your face with Kimchi Jigae, Duk Bok Gi, or Mandu Guk. As of right now, they’re closed on Mondays, and open at 5 to serve dinner. So stop in, and check it out.
