Retailers!

We’ve got love for our [ 2 one 5 ] retailers, and to show our appreciation, we’ve put together two little retail spotlights. More will follow, and as we turn into an enormous brand (it’s happening, we can feel it), we’ll continue giving them the love they rightfully deserver. We’ll probably even throw a few stores in these spotlights who don’t carry [ 2 one 5 ] because sometimes it’s fun to learn about new stores. To see more pictures, please be sure to visit the [ 2 one 5 ] Flickr.

Out of Time - On Chestnut Street between Broad and 15th, Out of Time carries tons of shirts, comics, books, and other clothing for both men and women. The front of the store opens you into a sea of fabric from t-shirts, hoodies, and hats in glass bins, on hangers, and draped on the walls. Once you make it to the back of the store, there’s tons of comics and books from Archie to Anime. So, there’s plenty of goodies for you to get your hands on. Just be sure you grab some [ 2 one 5 ] goodies while you’re at it.

Omoi
- This little gem on Pine St. just off 16th is probably Philadelphia’s best kept secret, but we’re going to let it out. Why? Because besides carrying [ 2 one 5 ] gear, Omoi’s floor is filled with housewares, clothing, stationary, books, Lomos/Holgas, and pretty much everything you could imagine. There’s enough in there to drain your wallet fast, and trust me, it’s worth it. You’ll walk out with bags filled with fashionable, artistic, pop-culture goods that’ll make you the envy of all your friends/relatives/people on your block/the city of Philly.

Living Proof Sneak Peek

Our yearly (for now) publication, Living Proof magazine, should arrive from the printer today. Hopefully, we’ll get it distributed once it gets dropped at our doorstep. This year, actual print copies will be mad limited, but it will also be available online for you to download and read in between your late night porn sessions. Anyway, have a sneak peek at the cover, and keep checking the website to find our where you can get your grubby hands on a copy. As usual, Philly will get hit first and the hardest, so be ready.

Happy Birthday

philebrity.jpg
A special avant-garded Happy Birthday wish goes out to Philebrity. Even though they’ve written about us only once (I think), we’ve still got love for them and their blanket-coverage of all things Philadelphia related. Happy 3 years, dudes and dudettes.

First Friday

First Friday is upon us. Soon (tomorrow) art aficionados of all sorts will cloak the city with fartsy attitudes. Here’s our top choices for you to mingle around and impress the opposite sex with your knowledge of “low brow” art and culture. They’ll be really into you, trust us. It has nothing to do with the wine. This will also undoubtedly lead to a Missed Connection.

[ 2 one 5 ] Gets Up!

PA031052.JPGPA031051.JPG
Boy, do we love wheat paste. You’d think it’d taste better though, based on its name, but frankly, the shit is disgusting. Don’t try and tell us you were never curious. Anyway, be on the lookout for more of these, including the Bandit and Sprayer, in your area: South Phil, No Libs, Old City, Chinatown, whatever they decided to name what is affectionately referred to as the Gayborhood, and everywhere else.

Game 1 Flicks

It’s out of the way, now: the Phillies have returned to the playoffs, and unfortunately, lost the first game of their NLDS to the Rockies. But, fret not our dear phanatics. There are four more games to play. Four more chances (they only need 3 wins). A few [ 2 one 5 ]ers were on hand to cheer on our beloved 9 (thank god Eaton was left off the playoff roster), and they brought back a few photos of the action. Have a look. Game 2 gets underway today at 3pm. We don’t have tickets to this one, unless you’d like to give us some.

[ 2 one 5 ] in PW

Speaking of stuff that doesn’t fully fit on our lovely Epson Scanner (or Pauly Pixels, as we like to call him), if you happened to reach your hand into the dirty, slimy, rusty box emblazoned with the words “Philadelphia Weekly” of your nearest street corner, you might have noticed an appearance by [ 2 one 5 ]. In their “Music on a Mission” article, Soul Genesis artist, TuPhace, can be seen wearing our What Happened to Peace? t-shirt. Check it out:

New Look, New Feel, Less Trees

Untitled-1.jpg

Tokion’s latest issue landed on news stands recently and beefs itself up with a new look and new feel. This remix of the magazine includes bigger dimensions (it wouldn’t even fully fit on our scanner), new paper stock, and tons of gloss, leading to less trees for beautiful nature and depleting oxygen supplies to sustain human life. The outside isn’t the only part that received some new make up though. Inside, the titles use a standard helvetica font that’s a far step back from their past artist done titles which gave a nice consistency to the magazine while offering the non-reading types something pretty to look at. The type font also grows a bit to compensate for the new size. The articles seem like they’ve gotten shorter, too, which could just be a byproduct of the enlarged size as well. Overall, Tokion drops back a few notches on my “Top Magazines” list. It seems a little less special to me now, but if the idea was to put more of a focus on the articles and less on their creativity, then consider it a success. I’ll probably still read/buy it though, just because I’ve been a fan for so long.
