Oh the Horror

ohthehorror.jpg
OK, I’m definitely scared (or scurrred, if you’re so inclined). Scared that people could make a hoodie that’s completely wrong. Or make two sneakers with the same theme using the same elements, albeit one a lot more successful than the other. Couple in the fact that 80s horror/things you grew up on is taking over the streetwear world, and I’m shaking in my boots. First up, LRG has made another hoodie with an obnoxious hood, this time, it’s made to look like Jason from Friday the 13th. The only problem? Jason didn’t use chainsaws. He used a machete. It’s called “research and development” for a reason. Do your homework. Next up, Nike SB and Reebok have both made Freddy Kreuger inspired sneakers, with the Nike model looking better, but still not all that good. They’re both, dare I say, wayyy too expected.

On the other hand, look for Sleepaway Camp, Leprechaun, Attack of the Killer Clowns, Class of Nuke ‘Em High, Slumber Party Massacre, and Killer Party  inspired t-shirts from [ 2 one 5 ] coming soon!!!!

Music Fest NW

musicfestnw.jpg

Attn Portlanders. Music Fest NW swoops in during early September for four nights of high quality shows at various venues around Stumptown. As a former Portlander myself, I can vouch that this year’s lineup boasts some topnotch talent compared to previous schedules. Usually boiling with local acts, the 07 fest brings in some heavy hitters to add to the burgeoning Pacific Northwest scene. Also, I haven’t been to Portland in a few years; when did the Satyricon reopen/move? Anyway, check here for the list of performers (Clipse and Lifetime?), and here for a schedule of events.

Death!

Nothing can get a Monday off to a better start than a few deaths! For real though, I’m kind of sad about both. They each did a little something for me in their own little ways.

tonywilson.jpg Tony Wilson - Factory Records founder and Hacienda owner Tony Wilson had a little something to do with the whole music scene in England, specifically the whole “Madchester” thing. He also put out records by Joy Division, New Order, and the Happy Mondays. Basically, Tony Wilson is responsible for a large chunk of my music collection. Even bands that weren’t on his label.

merv.jpg Merv Griffin - I learned the word “pedantic” from watching  Merv’s Jeopardy. And thanks to all the trivial knowledge I have from watching countless episodes of Jeopardy, I sometimes get called “pedantic.” Thanks, Merv.

MADly in Love

MadMen
AMC, Thursdays, 10pm

AMC’s new drama MAD MEN is the latest addition to our hit list. The series, set in 1960 New York, captures the happenings inside a big time Madison Avenue ad agency… facing the hassles of a conservative market, the revelation that cigs kill, women in the workforce, etc etc. I love the world sans copy machines, everything seems so… precious.

For the TiVo-less minority, the show reruns on Sundays at 10am and 10:45pm. Giddyup.

Headlines Filtered

For the first time since 2005, XBox gets a price cut! Psshh! While the news media reports this is the upcoming holiday season, we all know its in lieu MADDEN2008, because games sell consoles. Microsoft Corp will reduce the price of the Xbox 360 Premium model by $50, to $350. Now tab over to Amazon… where they dropped the price to $330. Lets note that this development follows the Sony Corp decision to cut the price of its PlayStation 3 to $500.

August 13th, Radar’s September issue, featuring a less than modest Prince Harry, hits newsstands. WTF mate!?? Can the ef-ing PRINCE do this?! Did his grandmother disown him? And how long until the Bush twins (preferably Jenna) make their cover debuts??

As a trend whore… I’m particularly drawn to Christina Aquilera’s back in an ad for her new fragrance. In fact, I want lacey-art-nouveau-ness all over me. I anticipate B-List celebs jumping on this… we’ll give it a month.

Summer Recap/Fall Previews

So, before the heat swelled to sticky proportions, we declared that this summer was officially

narwhale.jpg

So, was the [ 2 one 5 ] summer as wondrous, grandiose, and capricious as our favorite aquatic mammal? Simply, yes. We swam with nimble vigor through seas of serene, snug fabrics to craft t-shirts that echo the sentiments of summer like the alluring, angelic croon of the narwhale.

Before Labor Day comes along and the last piece of charcoal burns to ash, we’ll still be squirting out t-shirts and other goodies like warm water from a Super Soaker. For now though, we’ll give you a few looks at new stuff, and tickle you a little with a feather from what we’ll soon be floating out.

newtees.jpeg We’ve already shown you our sparkling new t-shirts. Now, be a good little blog reader and visit our online store. Then, make a purchase. After that, eagerly await a package in the mail. Once that package arrives, squeal with giddy, childish glee as you put on your new [ 2 one 5 ] t-shirt.

lp.jpg Just like your favorite holiday (mine is Halloween), Living Proof magazine only comes once a year, and that time is soon approaching. We’ve nearly tripled the amount of content, but still kept it pocket size. So, your train rides and days in the park will be filled with plenty of reading. We’re still tight-lipped about the theme this time, but we’ll give you a clue: it has to do somewhat with back to school. Out in October.

ondeck.JPG Don’t count on us using the Fall months to gather food and get plump for winter hibernation. We’ve already got some new t-shirts in the works, including our first ever women’s line. There’s also some new men’s t-shirts featuring an edition to our ever growing branded collection. It certainly doesn’t stop there. We’ve got a pot full of hats and other goodies, too. We’ll be working all through the fall months, but when winter finally rolls around, something special from [ 2 one 5 ] will be hitting the slopes. Yes, that’s right–we’re releasing some snowboards so you can be like Shaun White minus the red hair.

Six Pack

Six artists and six songs.

sixer.jpg

1.) Morrissey “Suedehead” - Probably (ok definitely) my favorite Morrissey song. I sing it at the top of my lungs every time I hear it.
2.) Drop Nineteens “Delaware” - This US band was from Boston, but it’s their song Delaware that I really love. I’ve never been a fan of Boston. Not really a fan of Delaware the state either, but this song is tops.
3.) Ride “Chelsea Girl” - Hi, i like a little something called “shoegaze.”
4.) M.I.A. “$20″ - This song has everything I love: heavy synthesizers, reverb, and echo effects.
5.) Iggy Pop “China Girl” - I like his version better than David Bowie’s. Something about Iggy’s version makes the whole thing seem a little dirtier.
6.) Wu-Tang Clan “Clan in the Front” - One of the best albums ever. Any genre. Any time period. Basically, I could have put any song in this spot.

Support KET

KET.jpg

Artist Alain Ket Mariduena is serving hard time for various graffiti related offenses. So, some of his buddies got together, created some original art/gathered old pieces to put up on the auction block to help support Ket and his upcoming trials. Visit SupportKET.org for more information and head to thewallsbelongtous.com for info on the auction/event. There’s a ton of stuff to bid on, most of it by your favorite artists including Futura, Barry McGee, Dalek, Haze, Shepard Fairey, and a slew of others.

NBA Campuses

adicamp1.jpg

Riding the coattails of the NBA Superstar collection, adidas is poised to release a similar series involving their Campus. This time, they give each division a separate treatment including camo, industrial, oddity, denim, outdoor, and white. I think this a step up from the Superstar series which was pretty much hit or miss (mostly miss). This one falls into the “hit” category a few more times. Personally, I’m really feeling the majority of this Denim series. Especially the Hornets one. I’ve always had a little place in my heart for those colors.  No homo or anything. See the rest here.

Odds and Sods

Here’s a few Odds and Sods for your muggy Monday midday.

1e72186cf8.jpg High Snobiety has a preview of the upcoming Fall/Winter 07 Adidas by Stella McCartney line.

61FDIbBt81L._SS500_.jpg M.I.A.’s new album Kala has leaked. Find it before the anti-pirates take it away.

0224burrell.jpg Pat the Bat has been hot lately. Finally. Check the stats.

nancy_lee_1168535547.jpg Lee Hazelwood has passed away. I’m not really familiar with his work outside of the stuff he did with Nancy Sinatra. I’ll listen to Slowdive’s cover of “Some Velvet Morning” as a tribute.
nike-sb-spring-gibson-croc-3.jpg Nike SB’s keep getting uglier. (via Hypebeast and entirely our opinion, not Hypebeast’s)
