Here’s some movies I will be seeing shortly.

Control - If there’s a movie about Ian Curtis/Joy Division, I’m going to see it. Apparently, this is a pretty honest account of Curtis’s life (as written by his wife Deborah) that doesn’t try to paint him as some sort of martyr. It explains all the trouble, marital and mental, that he went through and that ultimately led to his suicide. Watch the trailer here. It’s shot entirely in black and white, and director by Anton Corbijn who used to photograph Joy Division. Interesting fact: Sam Riley who plays Ian Curtis in Control, play Mark E. Smith in 24 Hour Party People.

This Is England - Based on the director’s personal experiences, this film follows a 12 year old outcast who becomes friends with a group of skinheads in the summer of 1983, and comes across a bitter, dangerous racist skinhead after he returns from prison and causes strife in the group. A take on working-class British life told basically through the eyes of this 12 year old as he’s met with different influences, and basically just wants a place and group of friends he fits in with. Interesting fact: I find Chelsea cuts strangely attractive. Watch the trailer here.
