I Am The Resurrection

There’s only one way to celebrate the resurrection and trump the lame and disgusting candy (minus the peanut butter eggs) covered in plastic strips of “grass” (how is this shit child safe?): by listening to the Stone Roses “I Am The Resurrection.” Back in 1989 the Manchester lads played what later became a legendary concert, during which Ian Brown walked out with a light-up yoyo and donned his infamous Paul Smith “money shirt.” The shining moment of the Blackpool gig came at the very end, when the band broke into their 10-minute craziness on this track. The song starts with Ian Brown repeating “who is and who isn’t” (a reference to ecstasy), singing horribly out of tune (he never sung in tune in concert. listen for the chorus and the word “couldn’t), and eventually banging on some bongos like the monkeyman he is all the while Cressa does his best I’m-on-ecstasy dancing, The true gem in this masterpiece shines when John Squire completely goes bonkers on the guitar freak-out for five straight minutes while barely moving an inch.
