I’ve been listening to a lot of solo females or bands with female singers all day. Then I got a free Bjork poster while at lunch. Now, I’m compiling a short list of my favorite female vocalists for all of you. In no particular order.

1.) Rachel Goswell (Slowdive/Mojave 3) – Dreamy, light, and powerful, Rachel’s the reason I really like Slowdive. She also has a strong presence on my 3 favorite Mojave 3 records. She hasn’t been able to tour with Mojave 3 recently because she has vertigo or something. Bummer.
2.) Nico – It’s pretty cool to have a weird, Nordic, sultry voice. It’s stupid to take heroin and get pregnant. But man, was Nico awesome.
3.) Bjork – The epitome of total awkward weirdness, there’s something so right about what Bjork does that it’s too good to hate on her paparazzi attacks or freakish outfits.
4.) P.J. Harvey – It was kind of weird for me to be into Polly Jean at the age of fourteen, you know, being a dude and all, but she can write a song and she can sing her ass off. This is an unpopular opinion, but she got better as she got older.
5.) Hope Sandoval (Opal/Mazzy Star) – It’s nearly impossible not to get a crush on Hope just by listening to her voice. It comes out like honey.
6.) Elizabeth Fraser (Cocteau Twins) – I can’t understand half the words she says, but she’s got the perfect moody, emotion driven voice.
